Singhampton home destroyed by fire

A Clearview Township house was destroyed by fire this afternoon.

Passersby noticed smoke coming from the house on County Road 124, just east of Singhampton, shortly before 1:30 p.m.

No one was home at the time and no one was injured but one cat is unaccounted for. The homeowners arrived on scene while the home was fully engulfed.

Clearview Township Fire Chief Colin Shewell said when crews arrived, flames were coming out through the windows. Firefighters tried to get into the house but the fire was too advanced.

He said firefighters did a great job containing the flames to the building and also kept hoses on a neighbouring vinyl clad house to avoid heat damage.

Shewell estimates the damage is valued at more than $250,000 and says there is nothing to indicate the cause is suspicious.
