Small fire, big response

 In News

The damage caused by a house fire on the Garden of Eden Road last Tuesday was kept to a minimum due to quick notification by residents and a speedy response by the Clearview Fire Department according to Fire Chief Colin Shewell.

A call came from the people staying in the house at 9:10 p.m. Deputy Fire Chief Roree Payment was on scene 10 minutes later and located a fire near the front exterior of the house. The people in the house were evacuated. Using the fire extinguisher in his vehicle Payment was able knock down the fire before the arrival of the level-three response by Clearview Fire Department. This squad included 10 trucks and two chiefs.

Fire fighters entered the house and used a thermal imaging camera to confirm the fire was contained to the exterior of the home. The house was smoke filled but no one was injured.

Shewell estimates about $5000 in damages to the home but said it could have been much worse if not for the timely detection and extinguishing of the blaze.

“The house was board and baton and the winds were high so this had all the makings of a full fledged structure fire.”

The fire was caused by placing warm ashes too close to the house.
