Apothecary expands team, services in new location

The Creemore Apothecary is expanding its wellness boutique and health services at a new main street location.
Opening May 8 in a bigger space, the apothecary has grown to include a collective of female wellness practitioners and a larger inventory of products and organic clothing by makers whose stories have resonated with founder Kate Hunter, the naturopathic doctor who started the Creemore business last summer.
Hunter is pleased to say that the store carries a line of all-Canadian products, 90 per cent of which are made by women and 40 per cent of whom are BIPOC – Black, Indigenous, People of Colour.
By adding practitioners, Hunter said the apothecary will be well equipped to treat physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness with a patient-based collaborative approach.
Hunter uses energy testing to take the guesswork out of treatment and allows her to develop a targeted plan which may include a combination of herbs, vitamins, homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, and traditional Chinese medicine.
She is being joined by fellow naturopathic doctor Kathryne Petrov, who is relocating to Creemore to join the practice.
“I’m all about helping people meet their optimal health and love themselves in their own bodies,” said Petrov, who also brings a range of treatment options to the clinic including acupuncture, cupping, diet and lifestyle coaching as well as knowledge of herbs and supplements.
Petrov was drawn into the profession after she had an affirming experience with a naturopathic doctor who was treating her for an iron deficiency and was inspired to provide that kind of care for others, one where she provides a space for people to be heard and work towards a treatment.
“It’s about getting to the root cause not just masking symptoms,” said Petrov. “Education is power, I believe.”
The doctors will be joined by long-time local health practitioner Juliette Reynolds who is offering Thai Yoga Massage and soul readings, during which she said she serves as a gentle guide helping people to understand the essence of who they are and find the “whys” behind their health issues.
Having practiced Thai Yoga Massage for 25 years, Reynolds said that is what led her to go deeper into the practice of unblocked one’s vitality.
During a soul reading, Reynolds taps into the soul memory system which is just beyond the conscious mind.
“It’s about shifting people’s patterns,” said Reynolds. “People get stuck in negative thought patterns.”
Past experiences and emotions can cause people to suffer physical symptoms and by treating the symptom without exploring the underlying cause is akin to a band-aid solution, they say.
Hunter said the goal is to “unlock the physicality of how people are experiencing an emotional trauma.”
The whole operation will be managed by Kate’s sister Ali Hunter, who is also a chef and will be able to provide assistance to people on nutrition and edible supplements.
She will also be overseeing the management of the retail store and appointment bookings.
The store, located at 168 Mill St., will have regular hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
