The New Farm announced Broken Social Scene will play at the Farms for Change event later this month.

Due to contract restrictions, the identity of the band was kept secret when the tickets went on sale. Regardless, they sold out within minutes.

Broken Social Scene is a collective of musicians on the Arts and Crafts label of their own creation. Core members Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning are constants in the band while other musicians rotate through and make guest appearances. Feist, members of Metric and Stars are also regulars.

Broken Social Scene are an art rock band with a huge following. Their Toronto music festival, Field Trip, fills Historic Fort York and Garrison Common every year for two days in June.

Farms for Change, on June 23, is as much a food event as a concert with people coming to sample fare from top chefs.

The event raised more than $100,000 last year for Community Food Centres Canada with the goal of getting high quality nutritious food to low income people.
