Big Heart Seniors

March 8

On a dull and dismal day 28 players came to try their luck at bid euchre and catch up on the latest news (gossip).

We were sorry to hear of the passing of Eileen Giffen a former member. An apology to Rob M. for the less than friendly welcome.

Lucky winners of 50/50 draws were Mel Lougheed, Isabelle Gubbels, Peter Gubbels and John Van Voorst.

Irma Flack reminded us that the Rama bus goes on April 3 and March 15 was potluck.

Moon shots were successful  for Janice Stephens, Alinda Bishop x2, Barb Pilon and Isabelle Gubbels with Alinda winning the travel prize.

Top winners were Barb Pilon, 303; Alinda Bishop, 286; Marg Hennessy, 276; Leona Hartling, 274 and Lillian Hiltz with 135.

No one was in the lucky chair.

A little health tip: Regular naps prevent old age, especially if you take them while driving.

March 1

For many years the Creemore Big Heart Seniors have organized monthly bus trips to the casino at Rama. A few years ago, the December to March buses were withdrawn due to the possibility of inclement weather. This trip is open to all who are 19 years and older. There is a $5 fee to go but for that you get your bus ride to and from Rama, a bountiful buffet at noon, and a day out. The $5 goes directly to the Big Heart Seniors to assist with their donation to the Creemore Legion for the use of their facilities 50 weeks of the year.

The bus leaves the Creemore Legion at 8:30 a.m. sharp, with stops also at New Lowell and Angus, and returns at 4:30 p.m.

The first bus in 2018 is booked for Tuesday, April 3.

Rama suggests a minimum of 40 passengers to make a coach viable. If you are interested in going, please call 705-466-5205 soon so the trip can be confirmed.

There were 31 members out to play bid euchre. We were happy to welcome Art and Alinda Bishop and Flo Kerr back from Florida and Lillian Hiltz who has not been with us for a few weeks. A late thank you was given to John Van Voorst and Robert McNicol for donations of candies.

The lucky 50/50 ticket holders were Marg Hennessy, Roy Veinot, Peter Gubbels, Marg Falls, and Isabelle Gubbels.

There were only two moonshots, both played by Marcia Cameron, so she won the travel prize.

Winners at bid euchre were Roy Veinot, 289; Joan O’Laskey, 286; Peter Gubbels, 280; Janice Stevens, 271; and another high low score of 165 for Marg Hennessy.

The lucky chair was empty.

If you would like to learn or play bid euchre do join us any Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Creemore Legion.

Consider the bus to Rama.
