CCC hosts Strike Day Camp to support parents, students

Clearview Community Church is offering a one-day Strike Day Camp for students affected by this week’s Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) strike action.

Rotating strikes will impact Simcoe County District School Board elementary schools on Wednesday, Feb. 5. All 83,000 ETFO members across the province will be out on a one-day strike on Thursday, Feb. 6.

ETFO said contract talks with the province broke down on Friday, so the strikes are expected to go ahead.

Clayton Culham said parents from Clearview Community Church’s youth programs reached out to ask if they were offering programs on strike days.

“There seems to be a need and an opportunity,” said Culham.

Although there wasn’t any space available for the Feb. 5 strike day, the church was able to secure the Creemore arena hall for a Feb. 6 program.

Culham said the day will include games and activities, some outdoor time and hopefully some STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities

The program will go from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to all elementary school students.

Registration costs $20. Register via Clearview Community Church’s Facebook page or call 705-428-6543.
