Charities meeting community need this Christmas

 In News

The Creemore Echo is collecting toys and gifts on behalf of the Salvation Army near Glencairn, where volunteers have distributed 56 hampers, and counting.

“We are so very excited by the generosity of the community,” said Salvation Army Hope Acres hamper and kettle coordinator Cathy Cook. “And it’s not too late to apply. If people are in need, please call, we have the resources and the desire to meet the need.”

The hampers include grocery cards so people can buy their own food, toys, stocking stuffers and gift cards for older children. In addition to the hamper, they also make clothing available.

Cook said the kettle money stays in the community and goes to providing clothing for men in the addiction treatment program and sending children to summer camp.

Donations of hats, gloves and warm socks are very much needed throughout the winter.

The Cooks stopped to collect a load of toys Thursday morning before heading over to Creedan Valley Care Community, the nursing home in Creemore, where they hold a monthly service. For the Christmas service they came bearing gifts, 95 in total, one for every resident.

Anyone in need of assistance from the Salvation Army is asked to call 705-466-3435 ext. 228 and leave a message with a call back number.

Drop all donations off at The Creemore Echo office, located at 3 Caroline St. W. The toy and food drive runs until Dec. 15.

All food collected during the drive will be distributed by Clearview Stayner Food Bank, operated by the Clearview Ministerial Association.
