Clearview council donates $10,000 to food bank

At its second virtual emergency meeting on April 7, Clearview council agreed to donate $10,000 to the Clearview Stayner Food Bank to help it meet the rising needs of people impacted by the pandemic.
Council was responding to a request for assistance from the food bank, which is feeling the pressure of increased need and a change in shopping opportunities.
Food bank coordinator Pam Royal said food donations from churches and individuals are way down, and it is expected demand will continue to increase for weeks or months.
“It is our mandate at the Clearview Stayner Food Bank to help anyone that comes in and asks for help and we are asking you to consider helping us with a financial donation to ensure that anyone in Clearview in need of food can continue to be assured and assisted in support from the food bank,” wrote Royal.
The Food Bank normally supports more than 75 families but numbers are rising due to pandemic related unemployment.
The money will come out of the municipality’s existing community assistance grant fund.
