Clearview declines purchase of NCPS annex

Clearview council will take a pass on a chance to purchase the old high school in Creemore, most recently used as the Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School annex.

Having been deemed surplus by the school board the property is moving through the process of being put up for sale on the open market.

“Staff have met with the school board and the NVCA regarding alternative uses of the subject property. No use which would include the overnight accommodation of persons, be it residential or institutional would be permitted due to the lands being located in the floodway. As such, the lands are not suitable for the municipality to acquire for a housing project. Senior management team discussed alternative uses for the former school and do not have a foreseen use for the lands,” reported director of community services Mara Burton. “Unless the municipality has intention for acquiring the site for some other municipal use that is not currently planned, staff recommend to council that the township not acquire the property.”

She said the current institutional zoning allows for the following uses: career counselling centre; place of worship; job training centre; library; museum; art gallery; government office or government works building; health care centre (excluding hospitals); cemetery, including an accessory funeral home or a crematorium; or public works yard and facilities with accessory outdoor storage (excluding hazardous substances and gas storage).
