Creemore BIA members in place for new term

Seven people were acclaimed to the BIA board of directors Tuesday.

Heirloom 142 and Lagom 142 owner Laurie Severn will serve as president for the coming four-year term, with Bank Café owner Nancy Johnston as vice-president. Heather Harding, Manager Community Experience for Creemore Springs Brewery, is the new secretary and Creemore Echo publisher Sara Hershoff remains in the role of treasurer.

Darci-que Fischl is joining the board of directors and past secretary Karen Gaudino returns as a member at large, along with past president Jackie Durnford, co-owner of 100 Mile Store and Thom Paterson remains in his role as council representative.

The board of management’s duties are to oversee the improvement, beautification and maintenance of municipally owned land, buildings and structures in the BIA – business improvement area – beyond that provided at the expense of the municipality generally and to promote the area as a business or shopping area.

A $20,000 annual budget is used for main street decor, maintain the garbage receptacles, plan events and make the street look nice in general.

“First, we have to thank the outgoing BIA for all the work they have done to set us up in a positive way,” said Severn. “We are well positioned to build upon what they have done.”

“It is exciting to see new people taking on the challenge,” said Hershoff, “with a mix of past members remaining.”

They say it has been a smooth transition.

“There is so much opportunity this year,” said Severn, for new events, improved communications and marketing.

The focus will be on bringing members together, working together for the good of the business community.

“I think we are in a position to help each other be more successful,” said Severn.
