Creemore’s Christmas in the Valley

Santa Claus will be in Creemore Dec. 2-3, during the Christmas in the Valley festivities.

The festivities begin Friday night with the annual tree lighting, hosted by the Creemore and Area Ratepayers Association and the Tree Society of Creemore, at Station on the Green beginning at 6:30 p.m. Children are encouraged to create their own hats for the crazy hat contest and a chance to win the honour of flipping the switch to light the tree. The best hat-makers will win prizes donated by Cardboard Castles. Free hotdogs and drinks will be served and there will be carol singing throughout the evening.

There will be a Christmas Market on Saturday and Sunday morning from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Station on the Green. Also on Saturday morning, fuel up on pancakes and sausage at Breakfast with Santa at Nottawasaga Creemore Public School (NCPS) from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The popular kids-only shopping room will be open and themed treasure trays will be raffled. Children eat for $5 and adults eat for $7. A family of four can eat for $20 and a family of five eats for $25.

Santa will be at the school to visit with the children and pose for photos before being beckoned to the parade staging area.

The Creemore Santa Claus Parade, organized by a subcommittee of the Creemore BIA, is at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The parade route will start at the Simcoe County Works Yard on County Road 9, head east to Mill Street, continue south on Mill Street to Edward Street turn on Mary Street where it will pass the nursing home, then north to Caroline Street, where it ends. Santa will greet guests at the Creemore Log Cabin after the parade. Hot chocolate and treats will be served.

Those interested in entering a float are asked to register by e-mail to laurie.wilson@td.com and be at the staging area no later than 12:45 p.m. Entry is by donation to the parade fund.

The parade begins at the Simcoe County works yard and proceeds along County Road 9 east to Mill Street, south on Mill Street to Edward Street, east on Edward Street to Library Street, north on Library Street to the Log Cabin. Roads will be closed to accommodate parade traffic.

After the parade visit the Creemore branch of the Clearview Public Library, next to the Log Cabin on Library Street, for holiday crafts and a hot drink, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Stayner Santa Claus Parade, organized by the Stayner Kinsmen, is also taking place on Saturday, Dec. 3 beginning at 10 a.m.

On Sunday, the mayor is hosting a free skate at the Creemore Arena from noon to 2 p.m. Donations to the food bank are appreciated.
