Dean Brody shoots new video in Mulmur
Samantha Robinson is a big fan of Canadian country music star Dean Brody so having him perform at her own private concert was a real thrill. Having the chance to include her friends and family, be part of a music video shoot and hang out with the star made it even better.
“It was so much fun. On Monday my cheeks were so sore for smiling and laughing,” said Robinson. “It was the best time ever. I still cannot believe I won.”
She entered the Twisted Tea sponsored contest via Brody’s Instagram profile. He is a multi Juno and Canadian Country Music Award winning musician known for Bring Down the House and Canadian Girls.
She said she was delighted to learn she was a finalist in a contest to host the August 25 concert and a music video shoot for his new song Dose of Country.
Robinson, an Oshawa resident, pitched her cousin’s place in Mulmur, the Szolopiak property, as the concert venue and contest officials approved.
“It all went from there. It was kind of crazy,” said Robinson.
A crew came in on the Saturday to set up a stage and brought in games, food trucks for the party, which was attended by about 100 guests. Robinson, who split her invites with her cousin and brother, invited friends, family, neighbours and coworkers to share in her special day. She said she had trouble convincing people it was real. Many people thought she was joking.
During the day and throughout the shoot Robinson got to hang out with Brody. She said they took a bunch of photos and spent time chatting (she learned he is vegetarian and plans on getting a pet pig – which will be named Waffle). Brody’s concert was truncated by stormy weather on the horizon but he managed to get in quite a few songs during the performance and Robinson said she was very happy with the night.
Out of hundreds of applicants from across the country, Robinson was selected to win the Totally Twisted Summer Contest.
“Huge thank you to Twisted Tea… They brought quite a party. Rain or shine it was going to be a good day. I can’t thank Twisted Tea enough for everything,” said Robinson.
