Drab TD building won’t move us forward

I am writing to voice my support for the proposed plan to accept TD’s generous land donation to extend Creemore’s community gathering area.

I believe this provides a rare opportunity to enhance the Station on the Green by creating a vibrant and multi-purpose village square that can host a range of events and attract visitors.

Due to the hard work of many people in the community, Creemore developed a terrific ‘brand’ some 10 to 15 years ago. We were a founding member of the craft beer scene. We had great local restaurants and interesting shops.

The area spawned many fantastic entertainment events such as The Creemore Mockumentary Festival, the many New Farm events, the Children’s Festival, and the Jim Cuddy concerts, to name a few.  All of these elements fused together to produce a powerful and attractive brand that brings people, investment and visitors. We need to continue building this brand through ongoing care and feeding – always with an eye to the future.

We have the chance, right now, to keep the momentum going by creating a village square – perhaps ‘The Creemore Commons.’ A drab and uninspiring cinder-block building will not move us forward. An expanded community space will become a canvas that beckons bold and innovative ideas.
