Duck race tickets now on sale

Tickets are now on sale for the Stayner Kinsmen Club’s duck race.

In its seventh year, the charity event raises money for the Kinsmen’s community projects.

Each ticket costs $5 and is assigned to a rubber duck that is to be raced on the Lamont Creek on May 5.

New this year, Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School has been invited to join the student race, along with New Lowell, Byng and Clearview Meadows. Students will be decorating one large duck per classroom, in the theme of “anything but duck”. The winner of the race will win a pizza party. The ducks from Creemore and New Lowell will be on display at Home Hardware in Creemore and the community is encouraged to vote for the winner of the people’s choice award.

A corporate duck race will follow the student race with each entry costing $25. Local businesses are encouraged to decorate their shop windows for a chance to win three cash prizes ($100, $75 and $50).

Duck day’s finale is the main race with a chance to win six cash prizes, up to $700.

A barbecue runs throughout the event, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be entertainment and activities.

Tickets are available at The Creemore Echo and Midwest Metals, and at several businesses in Stayner, including Pharmasave and Dairy Queen.
