Clearview Township firefighters tackled a stubborn house fire south of Singhampton Sunday, complicated by heat and high winds.

Crews were called to the fire on Concession 11 Nottawasaga around 3 p.m. on June 26.

Officials say the fire originated in the area of the back deck and migrated up the side of the house to the attic.

“The occupants were home and tried to put out with garden hose before our arrival,” said Fire Chief Colin Shewell.

The fire is not suspicious and the house did have working smoke alarms. Damage is estimated at $300,000.

During overhaul, crews worked with the owner to remove personal property and salvage what they could.

Two of the home’s residents are students at Nottawasaga Creemore Public School and the school is accepting donations of clothing for them.

School principal Alison Golding said they are in need of boys clothing and shoes. For the 12 year old boy, the family requires size 16 clothing and size 7 shoes. For the 8 year old boy, the family requires size 10 clothing and size 3 shoes.

Donations of items can be directed to the school office until the end of the school day on June 29.
