Fatal collision near Shelburne

Dufferin County OPP is investigating a fatal collision that happened near Shelburne just before 5 p.m. on July 21, when police and emergency crews were dispatched to what was described as a car versus a tractor-trailer collision.

Police arrived and determined that a transport truck, hauling an unloaded flatbed trailer, had been stopped facing westbound in the inside lane of Highway 89, waiting to turn left onto a side road. This section of Highway 89 is a four-lane roadway.

Other westbound vehicles began to move right into the available westbound lane. One vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, continued westbound in the inside lane and ran into the back of the transport trailer that was stopped.

After the Corolla made impact, it then came to rest across the outside westbound lane where it was hit a by another westbound car. The driver of the Toyota Corolla, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car as well as the driver of the transport truck did not sustain injuries.
