Forum replaces hospital mayoral representation

Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and its five municipalities – Collingwood, Clearview, Grey Highlands, The Blue Mountains and Wasaga Beach – are in the process of transitioning its mayorsʼ forum to a municipal forum, as the hospital, following best practice around the province, moves away from having municipal representatives on the board of trustees, effective July 12.

These members will be replaced by individuals from across the region selected on the basis of the skills and experience they bring to the board.

Following a collaborative meeting on February 15, all agreed to build upon and strengthen the current mayorsʼ forum, which has been in place for almost three years.

“I think this is a wonderful opportunity and appreciate the collaboration of the municipalities and counties, as we transition to this new forum,” said hospital president and CEO Norah Holder.

Moving forward, the municipal forum will allow the five municipalities and the two counties to continue in an advisory capacity to the hospital, with open and progressive two-way conversation, and where appropriate, input into the hospitalʼs decision making process on matters which could impact the communities at large.

Further details are currently being refined as to the frequency of meetings and the terms of reference, and should be in place over the next couple of months.

“I look forward to the improved structure including the detailed terms of reference for the municipal forum. I believe that these changes will help guide all of the community representatives forward with strong collaboration for the ongoing operations of the current facility and the potential build of the new hospital which will benefit all neighbouring communities and residents,” said Clearview Mayor Christopher Vanderkruys.
