Habitat’s Stayner build receives support from local businesses

 In Business

For many in our community, living in a safe, decent home is a dream that is out of reach. Knowing that you can rely on warm shelter from the storm is a comfort we all hope to enjoy. Thanks to some great local businesses, the families that will be moving into the Habitat homes being built on Quebec Street in Stayner will know exactly what it means to have the safety and shelter of a warm home to surround them thanks to generous donations from AM Roofing Solutions, Van Dolders, Maibec Siding, Gentek Aluminum and Advanced Door Systems.

AM Roofing Solutions arrived on site during bitter cold winter weather to install the roofing systems for both homes. As the only Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor in Canada, AM offers the best possible warranties to meet the needs of their clients. Customer satisfaction is their highest priority. A family owned business, AM Roofing Solutions started their operations over 63 years ago. The current owner Roger Haviland, the grandson of the founder Harold Pierce, has continued to carry on the business.

“From day one, we believe in giving back to our communities. We live and work in our communities and by giving back, we are doing our part for future generations.” said Roger Haviland. “We believe that partnering with Habitat for Humanity and providing our support ensures they are able to build affordable housing for local families in need.”

In February, Van Dolders joined forces with Maibec Siding and Gentec Aluminum to make an in-kind donation of siding, soffit, facia and eavestroughing for both houses on Quebec Street. Van Dolders, a top local provider of high quality exterior home products through their network of trusted suppliers, ensure their products are installed by expert craftsmen who specialize in their installation and proudly serve customers all over Grey-Bruce-Simcoe. A Canadian family-owned business that has operated in Southern Ontario for over 50 years, the Van Dolders have learned a little about the things that matter in life. The memories created in and around a family’s home are cherished ones.

For Tim Van Dolder, their involvement with Habitat for Humanity is aligned with the company’s philosophy of giving back to the community.

Advanced Door Systems, a locally owned and operated full service garage door company based in Stayner, was established in 1988 – their combined experience spanning over 30 years in the field. “We were happy to be of assistance in the building of the Habitat homes, working with our manufacturer partners – Steelcraft who provided doors and Chamberlain Liftmaster who supplied the garage door openers,” said Mark Callegari, owner of Advanced Door Systems. “We approached both suppliers and they did not hesitate to commit to the project and we were pleased to provide the installation.” ADS is proud to employ local people from our community and buys locally wherever possible – they are committed to providing excellence and customer satisfaction – they’re not happy until their customers are.

“Our partnership with these community minded local companies demonstrates how working together reduces the number of families living in poverty and leaves a lasting legacy in our community,” said Joy Fleury, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity South Georgian Bay. “Donations of new building materials and the time and skill of technicians to install specialized products helps us keep our construction costs to a minimum. It is through the generosity of companies like AM Roofing, Van Dolders, Advanced Door Systems and their suppliers that we can continue to build safe, decent and affordable homes for hard working families who need it most.”

While construction of the homes on Quebec St. in Stayner has temporarily stopped for a much needed mid-winter break, the site will re-open Monday, April 8th with work continuing until completion.

Individuals or companies wishing to be involved in the build should contact Habitat at info@habitatgeorgianbay.ca or 705-446-9542.
