Hefty bounty needed on coyotes

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

I read Marie Miller’s letter about coyotes in the Sept. 28 edition. I agree with her 100 per cent. I can remember, and I am sure Mrs. Miller and many of your readers can, when we didn’t have any coyotes.

In the early to mid 70s they started to appear and did they migrate from the prairies, or did the Ministry release them, being the overflow of zoos and sanctuaries? We are constantly hearing of small dogs and cats being taken, and of some people being threatened. As a farmer with livestock I know firsthand the destruction they do. We do maybe get compensation for coyote kills but with all the hoops we have to jump through, is it worth the trouble?

What we need is a hefty bounty on the coyote and some of our hunter friends would hunt them. Many of our politicians at all levels know the problem but nobody has the guts to proceed to get a bounty. Or, do the animal lovers and tree huggers have more priority than those of us trying to make a living?

It seems to me that common sense has become a very scarce commodity.
