Juno winners performing in Creemore area

Hot on the heels of the award-winning Small Halls Festival Clearview’s community-run venues are providing more opportunities for residents and those visiting the area to enjoy nationally recognized talent in intimate settings.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, two Juno award winners will come to the area. Hawksley Workman is to appear at the Avening Hall and Fred Eaglesmith and his band take to the stage in Nottawa. Both concerts are part of national tours and support local initiatives.

The show with Workman will see the ACC North – as it is known, thanks to its reputation as a premier music venue – benefit from sponsorships, a cash bar and raffle for a stay at Mountain Ash Farm Spa and Inn. These concerts, presented in collaboration with the Creemore Echo, cover many of the Avening hall’s annual operating expenses.

Fred Eaglesmith’s visit to Nottawa is part of a partnership with the Collingwood-based Elephant Thoughts. The local charity, which is committed to change through education at home and abroad, was the recipient of the proceeds of Fred’s 21st Annual Charity Picnic in Aylmer last summer and supported by many sponsors excited by the prospect of seeing the legendary Canadian troubadour closer to home, at the Nottawa Hall.

Sara Hershoff, the publisher of The Creemore Echo, is helping to bring both performers to the area.

“To some it may seem ambitious to run two such shows on the same night but we had no choice. When talent like this call up and say they want to come to our community and be at our halls we just have to make it work,” said Hershoff.

The halls and the community surrounding them deserve the reputation that attracts such high calibre performers said Hershoff.

“We have proven time and again that our halls are a great place to be and an engaged audience will be there – and word is spreading within the music industry. I think we can expect to see more artists reach out and come here. If they do, it should help our halls – and our community – prosper.”

Advance tickets for Hawksley Workman cost $30, and are available at aveninghall.com and the Creemore Echo, 3 Caroline St. W.

Advance tickets for the Nottawa show cost $25 and are available online at fredeaglesmith.com and at the Elephant Thoughts store in Collingwood.

Tickets for both shows may be available at the door for an additional $5. Doors open at 7 p.m. and shows start at 8 p.m. at both venues.
