Looking back on 50 years at NCPS

 In Community

With the 50th anniversary of Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School fast arriving, on Thursday, June 8, it is a good time to look back on the achievements of former pupils. Thanks to Laurie Grant Rowe, formerly of Avening, now of Alberta, we have in our hands a book of poems composed by pupils of the 1973-1974 era. Here are a few.

Spring

by Lori Weatherall, Grade 7

Melting drifts

Running in rivulets

Cutting a shallow gorge.

Love in the Autumn

by Lorrie Montgomery, Grade 7

The autumn leaves are golden,

The summer leaves are green,

The autumn leaves are olden,

That’s the way it seems.

We see the frost upon the ground,

Each morning and at night,

We see the leaves whispering around

At the dawn of light

Flowers

by Kelly Kitchen, Grade 8

Bright, colourful,

Painting the land

In brilliant pastel colours.

On June 8 come and see this book on display and read the contributions of Steve Hare, Toni Kitchen, Iris Knappett, Norma Coutts, Gary Shaw, Violet Walker, Judith Walker and others. The open house begins at 4 p.m. with an anniversary ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in participating or donating is asked to contact Alison Golding at 705-466-2624 ext. 25901 before April 7. Memorabilia can be dropped off at the school or send scans by e-mail to agolding@scdsb.on.ca before May 19.
