MC2 hosts lyme disease info meeting Oct. 27

 In Events

Last year, the Mono Mulmur Citizens’ Coalition (MC2) hosted a public information meeting aimed at providing an update on the ever-increasing threat of Lyme Disease in our communities.

The meeting generated tremendous public interest with over 130 citizens attending. A wide range of information was provided, and the meeting had to be extended well past its scheduled endtime as a large number of Lyme disease sufferers stood up to tell their stories about this terrible disease; problems arising from government apathy, difficulties in getting treatment, and the substantial cost. For many sufferers there is a substantial emotional and financial impact as they deal with this disease.

Again this year, MC2 is hosting another meeting on this ever more serious health challenge to our community. A group of Canada’s top authorities will attend to provide up-to-date information about the battle to diagnose and test Lyme Disease.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Melanie Willis, Director of the Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab at the University of Guelph.

The panel, which will discuss many aspects of the disease will include Robert Little, Dufferin Federation of Hunters and Anglers; Rossana Magnotta, Founder, The Magnotta Foundation; Dr. Angela Lee, Naturopath, Lyme Essentials Canada; Dr. Willis will participate in the panel discussion.

The meeting is at Mono Community Centre, 754483 Mono Centre Road, on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
