Kay Newell passed away peacefully on October 19, at St Joseph’s Health Care Centre in Guelph, in her 101st year. Kay was the dear wife of Herbert Newell who predeceased her (1990); much loved mother of Julianne Pettigrew (Brian) of Guelph, Brian Newell (Cheryl) of London and Valerie Gray (Ian) of Surrey, B.C.; cherished Grandma of Christopher Newell (Chantal), Tara Newell (James deceased), Nicholas Pettigrew (Ashley), Jonathan Pettigrew (Alyssa) and Caitlin Baxter (Kevin). She was the very proud GG of Lauren and Adam Newell and Brody and Nathan Pettigrew.

Kay was born in Lavender, Mulmur Township on May 16, 1917 to Samuel and Margaret Hawkins (Bryce), the second of two children. She was predeceased by her brother Morris.

After the War she married Herb and together they settled in Creemore where, they became prominent members of the business community. Kay was an active member of the Eastern Star, the Skating Club, St. John’s United Church UCW and choir, and various other social clubs, where she enjoyed her many friends.

Kay was a kind and considerate woman whose sweetness and smile drew others to her right to the end. She was feisty, had a dry sense of humour, a quick wit and greatly enjoyed her own jokes.  She often commented on how proud she was of her family and we know she loved us unconditionally. A funeral service will be held at St. John’s United Church – 192 Mill St. Creemore on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s United Church or Creemore Union Cemetery. Friends may visit Kay’s online Book of Memories atwww.fawcettfuneralhomes.com.
