Nordstrom, Brian

 In Obituaries

On Saturday, September 8, 2018, surrounded by family, Brian Nordstrom passed away peacefully at the Perth hospital after a 2 year battle with cancer.

Brian was born in Germany March 23, 1974, to Norman and Valerie Nordstrom while they were serving there, and spent his childhood in Base Borden, Petawawa and Manotick.  His family enjoyed camping and road-trips across Canada. When he left home, Brian moved to the Kitchener-Waterloo area. After working in factories and other odd jobs, Brian enjoyed a career as a long-haul truck driver for many years, allowing him to visit places, family and friends all over North America.  After too many close calls with winter driving, Brian switched to landscape construction. Outside of work, Brian had a passion for games of all kinds (board games, role playing games, video games) which served him well as an escape throughout his illness. Brian also enjoyed the outdoors and found his true happy place in the backwoods of Algonquin Park in the years before he got sick.  Determined to spend his last months closer to the wilderness he loved, he moved his RV to Woodland Park near Arden, where he was warmly welcomed by Mary and Tim. Brian spent his final summer enjoying the lake and surrounding wilderness and inviting friends and family to join him. Brian was a true character with a great sense of humour (that not everyone got). He was a big fan of Howard Stern.  Family gatherings will be much quieter and far less interesting without him.

Beloved son of Norman and Valerie, “little” brother to Penny, uncle to Aster; nephew to John and Darlene, Beth, George, Robert; cousin to Daniel, Matthew, David, Katie, Meghan, Rob, Ryan, Lynn, Lianne; close friend to Marc. Brian will be missed by his family and friends. A service of remembrance will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home – Creemore Chapel at 2 p.m. on Saturday September 15, 2018. In lieu of flowers donations to the Friends of Algonquin Park or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Friends may visit Brian’s online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com.
