Pie and whipped cream at Thanksgiving market

 In Events, Visit Creemore

At Thanksgiving the Creemore Farmers’ Market is hosting the annual Apple Pie Contest, organized by The Creemore Echo. Dig out your family favourite pie recipe and make your pie… Who knows? It may be a winner. After the judging is done apple pie slices are sold for a donation. Gay Lea is supplying the whipped cream.

Gay Lea is also having their own event in conjunction with the Apple Pie Trail organizers. There will be free apple pie and apple crisp samples topped with whipped cream. Come on out and try some of these delicious desserts also available from the two vendors who supplied the samples, Thumbprint Bakery and The Happy Hen.

Thanksgiving will be a very full market so make sure to visit and see what is new at the market.

The market has been very busy this fall with some new vendors we are trying out for next year. We have finished with entertainment for this year. The local artists were well received and the music added a social touch to the market atmosphere. Overall it was a welcomed addition to our market.

We had student volunteers to help out throughout the summer which was a great asset to the vendors and the market manager. We will be looking for volunteers again for next year. Students who require community hours can get in touch with the market manager at creemoremarket@gmail.com

The market applied for TD Market Bucks this year through Friends of the Greenbelt.

The aim was to bring new people to the market to buy locally grown fresh produce and handmade artisan products and crafts. All our vendors were very excited about this program and looked forward to accepting market bucks. Along with 9 other markets we were accepted and over 500 Market Bucks went into the community to be spent at one of the 10 markets that were listed on the back.

We heard that some people were reluctant to spend them as they did not want the vendor to be out the $5. This is not the case. Every vendor is reimbursed for all the market bucks that they accept. The market is then reimbursed through Friends of the Greenbelt by the TD Banks. So please bring your market bucks to the market and use them. It is a win-win for everyone.

We would love feedback on this year’s market and surveys are available at the coffee booth.
