Ray’s Place awards bursaries

Ray’s Place has awarded bursaries to three local young men.

Each will continue their education at an Ontario College this fall, thanks to the generosity of local donors.

John Allen, of New Lowell, will pursue his certification in welding at Cambrian College in Sudbury.

Allen has been a peer tutor and has volunteered at community events like Miller’s Dairy Day and Copper Kettle Festival.

Mulmur resident Michael Noble has enrolled in welding at Conestoga College in Kitchener.

He enjoys learning different welding techniques as well as designing and creating sculptures using a variety of mediums.

Both are apprenticing with Don Brearey, at Howie Welding on Airport Road.

Derek Droog, of Lisle, has a love for cooking and has enrolled in the Culinary Management program at Georgian College in Barrie. He too has volunteered at many Creemore events including the Children’s Festival and Miller’s Dairy Day.

Droog received his first summer job through Ray’s Place (Rent-A-Youth).

The board of Ray’s Place and its bursary committee, wish all three students success in their chosen fields of study and will continue to provide mentorship and support.

Local youth interested in continuing their education at an Ontario Community College, or in a trades program, are welcome to apply for a Ray’s Place bursary of up to $1,000.

Applications for the 2018 school year will be available in the New Year, at the Creemore Public Library, The Creemore Echo and through Ray’s Place at info@raysplaceyrc.com.

Applicants must submit complete applications, including financial need, work experience, community involvement and references by May 2, 2018.
