Significant power in the old logo

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

By the time this is read St. Patrick’s Day will have passed on after enduring heavy heated discussion in dispute over the brand changing of Creemore Springs Beer. An interesting anecdote as to  the influence of a historical beer logo occurred with the most Irish of beers, Guinness, whose copyright ownership of the harp logo, featured and synonymous with their products, forced the newly formed Republic government in the early 20th century to ask company permission to feature an Irish Harp on their new country flag, which was granted but only with proviso that the new harp be reversed in direction.

Not to suggest that the Canadian government may wish to exchange our Maple Leaf for the new Creemore “Kettle of Fire” as a more appropriate emblem for our country but there is significant power in the old logo that may cause the owners to wish they too had asked permission rather than having leapt into the flames.

Lawrence Bell,

Mulmur.
