Siskins into playoffs

 In Sports

When playoffs start every team gets a fresh start.

During the regular season the Stayner Siskins won the Junior C Hockey League’s Carruthers division with an enviable 39-3-0 record. Based upon their incredible season, the Siskins won the right to play the division’s basement dwelling Caledon Golden Hawks, 11-29-2.

Like I said, playoffs give every team a fresh start. The series is tied 1-1. Stayner won the opener a week ago Thursday with a convincing 6-3 victory out-shooting the Golden Hawks 42-29. The following night, despite a 37-29 shot differential, Caledon upset Stayner with a 5-3 win.

Stayner wasn’t the only team to be upset. Second place Alliston lost game 3 to Schomberg 4-3 in overtime. Alliston won the first two games 6-1 and 5-2.

In the other series, Penetang and Orillia are tied at one game apiece and Huntsville leads Midland 2-0.

Scoring Stayner goals on home ice were Zack Trott, Nolan King, 2, Jordan Taylor, Kevin Boyd. The next night, Boyd and Taylor scored again and Ben Skuce got the other one.

Stayner and Caledon squared off last night. Score unavailable at presstime. They play again this Sunday in Caledon and back to Stayner Thursday, Feb. 16.

Duntroon’s Highlands Nordic reports that conditions are good. If you want to try new equipment they are hosting their last demo day of the year this Sunday.
