Shane Sargant, Clearview Township’s former culture, recreation and tourism coordinator, has been posthumously inducted into the Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO) Hall of Fame.
FEO recognizes the significant contributions of individuals to the festival and event industry saying, “without passion and dedication, this industry could not survive.” The awards were handed out on March 3 during the annual conference in Sault Ste. Marie.
Since 2000, FEO has inducted 35 people into its Hall of Fame representing festivals, municipalities, organizations and events from across the province. Each individual named to the FEO Hall of Fame is someone who has dedicated their career to the festival and event industry and who has made a lasting contribution to their community, festival, event or organization.
At the conference, Small Halls Festival was named one of the top 100 festivals and events in Ontario.
Submissions from FEO members were received for consideration in the fall of 2016 and were judged by an independent panel of judges. Festivals and events of all kinds from every corner of Ontario were represented in the submissions – from community festivals to internationally recognized events.
“Festivals and events create jobs and bring Ontario communities together to celebrate our heritage and diversity,” said Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “I am pleased to join with Festival and Events Ontario in congratulating this year’s top 100 recipients. There are so many celebrations taking place across the province this year and our 150th anniversary is the perfect opportunity to get out and discover them,” said McMahon.
Small Halls Festival is a weekend of events that take place at the community halls in each of the township’s communities. This year’s event is Sept. 28 to Oct. 1.
