Smartphones, tough habit to kick

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

I read, with great interest, your editorial on the smartphone on my smartphone. I can’t agree enough and wish I had never opened up my life to the pesky thing.

Like crack cocaine and picking my nose it is a difficult habit to give up. Saying that, the only time I really benefit from it is when booking travel arrangements while travelling. There is no better way to spend my travel time than with my nose buried in my phone trying to find out where and how to be elsewhere. I can literally use hours of wasted time which would otherwise be spent sightseeing, seeing what else to see.

Otherwise, I show up on time for my appointments, remember my closest family and friend’s phone numbers and make up answers when my kids or spouse ask me questions. No need to refer to the phone or the encyclopedia. Besides the internet is contaminated with fake news and ornamental facts anyway. I prefer my own version of the truth. I can stylize it any way I want.

But I must caution you to be respectful of bowed heads in restaurants. There is a strong possibility that the diner is saying Grace, wiping up Forty Creek wing sauce or has some jiggly bits caught in their zipper. As my grandpa used to say, “Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.”

Murray ‘Motorola’ Lackie,

Creemore.
