Snow banks, ice render transit system inaccessible

In light of the recent collision between Wasaga Transit and a pedestrian, I wonder what Clearview Township will do to ensure safety and accessibility to its own transit system?

Over 80 per cent of the stops are basically on the ice covered road… not the sidewalk… unless you are able to traverse the four-foot snow bank.

Some are even hard to find as the signs are ‘conveniently’ behind parked cars (across from Byng and Stayner Library).

For a service that’s supposed to be 100 per cent accessible… it’s a 100 per cent failure… wheelchair bound folks can’t negotiate poorly maintained sidewalks in the winter let alone when they’re dry in the summer. Parents with strollers and small kids, less than two metres from live traffic is unacceptable.

Will a major accident or fatality be the reason to bring this taxpayer funded failure up to reasonable safe standards?

What is the ‘loss’ per day for empty buses driving this poorly laid out circuit (empty even during the free ride period)?

How much more taxpayer money will go down this sinkhole that services a select few Stayner residents?

David Witzke,

Clearview.
