Student raises $1,550 for Humane Society

Alyssa Rowbotham, a Grade 6 student at Nottawasaga and Creemore Public School (NCPS), has raised $1,550 for The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) through the National Cupcake Day campaign, exceeding her initial goal of $1,000.
She raised the funds at several events: Zumba Fitness Fundraiser complete with a silent auction, 50/50 draw and bake sale; Holiday Hiphop Dance Class at the Stayner DanceRoom; NCPS Vendor Fair, where she sold cupcakes, banana muffins, chocolates, balloons and soap; cupcake parties at NCPS, and the Stayner DanceRoom.
Alyssa’s love of helping animals stems from her adoption of her beloved Mr. Cat, who has inspired her to help other cats in need.
When she reached her $1,000 goal she said, “Just because I’ve reached my goal doesn’t mean I have to stop!”
She also shared her love of National Cupcake Day this year by spreading the word through her speech at NCPS and the Creemore Legion’s Public Speaking competitions, placing second at both in the junior category.
“Finally, fundraising has no age limit. Anyone can fundraise! Even kids too! Just get out there and make a difference! Save a cat, dog or horse and make everyone’s day a little sweeter,” said Rowbotham in closing.
It goes without saying that none of this would be possible without the generous support of family, friends, community, local businesses, NCPS, Zumba Instructor Morgan Booth, Jennifer Campbell at The Stayner DanceRoom and the GTHS!
Last year Rowbotham raised $800, and she is brain storming some new ideas to add to her National Cupcake Day Fundraising efforts for next year.
