Telecom tower proposed for New Lowell

 In News

There was no opposition to a proposal to erect a telecommunications tower in New Lowell at a public meeting held Feb. 11.

No surprise, considering there are 73 current inquiries for service, according to Vianet.

The Vianet 37-metre multi-carrier telecommunications tower, if approved by council, would be installed at Clearview Auto Centre, at 5339 County Road 9 and will serve a three-kilometre radius.

Vianet hopes to build the tower now, to provide better service now while working out ways to offer alternatives to wifi.

Brian McCullagh was before council in 2017. At that time, Vianet submitted a proposal under the federal government’s Connect to Innovate program to build fibre in New Lowell but was not approved for funding. Vianet is also connected to SWIFT and plans to respond to future requests-for-proposal to install a fibre optic network in this area.
