Tradition continues with 2020 Sunnidale Winterama

The theme at this year’s Sunnidale Winterama, is ‘Jazzin the 20s.’
New Lowell’s annual winter festival taking place from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, kicks off Thursday with a teen dance (for youth 12-16) at New Lowell Legion. Admission is $2.
The festivities continue Friday with the annual spaghetti supper at the New Lowell Legion from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Children five and under eat for free; ages 6-12, $5; 13 and up, $10), when a beard contest judging will be held. The dinner and firefighters’ silent auction is followed by the Burning of the Green, skating and fireworks at the park.
Cap off the night with Yuk Yuk’s comedy night at the Legion. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Admission costs $10 at the door.
Fill up with a pancake breakfast, prepared by New Lowell United Church members, at the Legion Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (Children five and under eat for free; ages 6-12, $4; 13 and up, $7).
The opening ceremonies are on Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Lowell Recreation Park but there are events all day beginning with a sno-pitch tournament at 9 a.m., silent auction at the fire hall with proceeds going to burn victims at Camp Bucko, bed races and parade at 10:30 a.m., followed by children’s games and log sawing competition..
There is a craft sale at the church and the library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and euchre at the Legion from 1 p.m.
The soup-off is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. People are encouraged to whip up a batch of their best soup and deliver it to the fire hall in a crockpot between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. The masses will decide who is champion. On Saturday night there is a Twenties themed dance at the Legion with prizes going to the best-dressed. There will be live music by Sultry Katz and the Graham Playford Trio. Tickets for the dance cost $10 in advance and $15 at the door and are available at the Legion or town hall in Stayner.
There is another big breakfast at the Legion on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon, for $8 per person.
Register for the Morgan Taylor Memorial Snowmobile Fun Run at the Legion from 9 a.m.
Food will be for sale Saturday at the pavilion.
