Travelling sisterhood in search of best tea and scones

 In Opinion

I find I drink a lot, of tea that is.

I love a good cup of tea, but the best way to enjoy tea is with friends. It must be made properly; freshly boiled water, good china and served hot.

I find every excuse possible to host a tea party.

The little tea sandwiches and small finger desserts just add to the charm.

Some friends and I formed a tea party club and one Saturday a month we choose a special place to go. Some of these places are a distance away. One of our favourites was The Blue Willow Tearoom on the water in Gravenhurst. Every bit of the place was decorated with blue dishes. Even the bathrooms had blue teapot hangers for the towels. It was so delightful. We drove to Port Perry, Milton, Streetsville, Erin, Orillia, Barrie, Collingwood and every one is different and interesting.

They all seem to enjoy decorating and they all have a colour theme. I prefer the ones with fancy tablecloths, fine china and flowers, and of course, the best scones and jam.

I read and write down all the sayings on the walls. One of my favourites is:

When your day seems topsy-turvy,

And as stormy as can be.

There is nothing quite as tranquil,

As a nice hot cup of tea.

A very funny saying was framed on a kitchen door:

Remember the tea kettle, it is always up to its neck in hot water, yet it still sings.

May all your days be steeped with joy.
