Turn the lemon into lemonade

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:
I’d like to echo comments made in the March 8 letter (Drab building will not move us forward) regarding the potential for innovation created by TD’s land donation offer. Sure I’d rather see an operating TD branch on the street. But the chance to demolish that out-of-character building, and to expand Station on the Green is the way this lemon becomes lemonade.
Creemore needs some stimulation. We see the difficulties being experienced by businesses on Mill St.  Part of the solution is to attract more year-round residents and seasonal visitors. That’s a challenge to which I don’t have “the” answer. But removing the TD building and expanding Station on the Green will immediately improve the streetscape, and will subsequently enable more activities that attract more people.
Again echoing last week’s letter, people did novel and important things to create the Creemore village “brand”.  But brands, people, and villages all need new energy injections… or they fade. These moments of change don’t replace heritage, or disrespect the creators of that heritage. In fact, expanding Station on the Green to Mill Street will magnify the fine and caring work that’s already been done.
