Ty Doney tops baseball showcase

 In Sports

Smith Brothers Baseball Central hosted its fifth annual Winter Showcase in New Lowell last month. There was a great turn out of local talent, including their very own Central Ontario Reds 16U team.

College and University scouts and representatives from Canada and the USA came out to watch the participants showcase their baseball talents in hopes of furthering their playing careers.

The top performer of the showcase was Ty Doney from Shelburne with the hardest fastball, curveball, and tied for fastest velocity from third to first. Doney is like family to us at Smith Brothers, as he has trained in our Winter Development Program for three years and has done many clinics and lessons with our coaching staff.

Other stand-out players were Anthony Silvera (Toronto) and Jake Brennan (Egbert) who tied with Doney for the fastest velocity from 3rd to 1st, Ryan McLean (Shelburne) with the fastest catchers pop and the hardest exit velocity. David Walling-Goulette (Mississauga) with the fastest 90, and Wesley Kobelka (Innisfil), one of our very own Central Ontario Reds, tied with Aron Arbon (Wasaga Beach) for the fastest throw from right field to home plate.

The next fall kickoff showcase tournament will be held on September 22-23.
