Tykes play best game of the season at jamboree

 In Sports

The Creemore Tykes have entered the busy part of their schedule. It all began on Dec. 29 when we hosted a 12-team jamboree, teams from the big cities attended. Cities with subways (the sandwich shop), golden arches (McDonalds) and stop lights brought their talents to Creemore. Everyone was excited/nervous to see how we would stack up against these teams.

First game was against East Gwillimbury and Creemore behind the solid goaltending of Reece Fuller handled them nicely. Hayden Goodfellow Oster and Thomas Weldon played great defense, while Nate Patterson was a scoring machine.

The second game saw us face Richmond Hill and I don’t know if it was fatigue, over confidence or too many french fries but the team got off to a slow start. Despite a strong second half we couldn’t overcome the early deficit. After a quick coaches meeting in the parking lot we regrouped and were ready for our last game against Stouffville. We got back to playing Creemore hockey, which involves actually going for the puck. The kids were flying all game. Keenan Reynolds controlled the puck and made some great passes that Katie Gillespie and Otis Harbec slammed into the net. Jackson Hutchison made some great saves and covered any rebounds. It was the best game the team played all season. A post tournament gala was hosted by the Kinghan’s where fine food (pizza) and beverages (Bud Light) were enjoyed by the parents.

We also played four league games in which Creemore enjoyed great success. Cooper “BarDown” Duits, Aliya Ross Kinghan and Marin Tamlin all found their scoring touch with Marin potting two on her birthday. AnnaBelle Hamilton used her strong skating and speed at both ends of the ice.

Creemore’s other teams have started their playoffs, check out the schedule on the website and come over to the rink to watch some great hockey.
