Veggie Gardening 101

Gardening season is coming!
Although it may still be too cold or wet for many gardening activities, spring and summer are fast approaching.
If one of your goals for this summer is to grow and harvest tasty, healthy vegetables from your own home garden, now is the time to make plans to accomplish that.
A successful garden doesn’t just happen, it takes good information and planning in addition to planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting.
The idea of starting a garden can be quite daunting for anyone who has never done it. What is the ideal location for your garden? How do you turn lawn into productive garden space? What kinds of plants are likely to succeed in our area? Should you plant seeds or nursery-grown plants and when do you plant them?
To help you get started, the Creemore Horticultural Society (CHS) is offering a free “Veggie Gardening 101” class to the public on Wednesday, May 1, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church Hall, 22 Caroline Street West in Creemore. This class will help answer those questions and more.
Whether you are a novice gardener who has never stuck a trowel in the ground or a more experienced gardener who is looking to improve your vegetable gardening production, this class is for you.
You do not need to be a member of CHS to participate. All ages are welcome to attend although those age 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult (Only one child per adult, please.)
