Village Green proceeds when possible

“To the extent possible under the COVID-19 pandemic mandated restrictions on people and businesses, work on the Village Green will start as soon as allowed and continue through the summer.  Our goal is to be ready to open in the fall but we know that may be affected by the measures urgently required to fight COVID-19,” stated Stuart Lazier of the Creemore Community Foundation in response to the tightened provincial restrictions on construction activities.  “The Foundation acknowledges and shares the grave concerns of Creemore residents and business owners about the impact of the pandemic on our community.  Continuing this work is a strong vote of confidence for a bright future, both socially and economically, for Creemore.”

The Foundation is pleased to announce the hiring of a local contractor for construction of the Creemore Village Green.  Natural Blends Landscaping is a Collingwood company owned by Shawn and Renee Kelly, lifetime residents of this area.  In business for 16 years, the company specializes in landscape and general construction.  Shawn and Renee are “pleased to work in their home community and excited to work with the Creemore Horticultural Society to implement Hort garden designs.”  Clearview Nursery of Stayner has been appointed the designated partner and provider of all plant materials for the Village Green.

PFS Studio continues to progress the design, including the recent change of the stage location to the north side and the Fountain to the south side of the Village Green.  At the recommendation of architect Jim Campbell, the stage will be adjacent to the Foodland parking lot to direct sound from performances into the commercial sector instead of residential areas and to screen audiences from the distractions of parking lot traffic.  The Fountain will welcome visitors to the Green from its prominent placement on the southwest corner of the site.  These revisions also provide a clearer view of Station on the Green from Mill Street and displays the heritage brickwork of the Bank Café building.  The size of planned Hort garden beds and overall greenspace are unchanged.  Revised plans for the site will be made available for online public viewing in April.

“Donations are now in place to finance the construction so continuing to move forward demonstrates The Foundation’s commitment to the community.  When Creemore is able to fully reopen for business, the Village Green will be an additional attraction to draw visitors and residents back to Mill Street and be a positive factor in economic rebound,” Tony Arrell stated.
