Fierté Simcoe Pride (FSP) announces open nominations for the second annual Simcoe County LGBT Community Awards, presented on August 6, during the 5th Annual Fierté Simcoe Pride Festival.

The awards recognize the accomplishments of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans (LGBT) individuals, allies, community organizations and LGBT-inclusive businesses.

FSP recognizes the work of individuals, organizations and businesses that strive to celebrate diversity and promote an inclusive community.

The Awards will honour a LGBT resident, a municipality, a LGBT youth, a community organization, a local business, and a LGBT activist/leader for their contributions that make our County a better place to live, work and grow.

Categories for the 2016 Simcoe County LGBT Community Awards include: Youth of the Year, Person of the Year, Positive Community Organization, Positive Business, Tribute Award for Positive Community and Honourary Award for Activism and Leadership.

Nominations for the Simcoe County LGBT Community Awards will close Wednesday, June 1 and are submitted by the public using online forms hosted on the FSP website. Nominees will be announced Wednesday, June 22 and recipients in the five categories will be announced at the Awards Gala.

Each submission will be reviewed by the awards committee. Award recipients are selected by a jury, under the supervision of the co-chairs of the awards committee.

The Jury is assembled from members of the board of directors and five members of the public.
