Grain truck tips near New Lowell
A tractor trailer tipped on Sunnidale Concession 7 Tuesday, spilling diesel fuel.
Clearview Fire Department Deputy Chief Roree Payment said the transport truck with a double trailer left the road and rolled into a deep ditch east of County Road 10, between New Lowell and Sunnidale Corners.
The fire department was called to the scene just before 5 p.m. Firefighters responded from New Lowell and Stayner.
When emergency crews arrived, the driver, a 57-year-old man, was out of the vehicle, said Payment.
He sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by paramedics.
Firefighters concentrated on containing and cleaning up the fuel that was leaking from the truck’s tanks.
“We estimated about 120 litres of diesel was spilled, however we were able to capture most of it,” said Payment.
The truck was transporting grain to Collingwood.
Payment said the company that had purchased the grain arranged to have a vacuum elevator offload the product onto another truck, beginning at about 8 p.m.
He said most of the grain was contained within the truck.
Concession 7 was closed for a couple of hours while the transfer took place.
Fire crews cleared the scene at about 10 p.m. when a heavy tow truck company took responsibility for the fuel leak and began working to get the truck out of the ditch.
