The sounds of spring are in the air as the Sound Investment Community Choir prepares for their annual spring concert being held in early May. Under the direction of Maestro John Wervers, the choir has been rehearsing a lively classical piece by Haydn, The Kleine Orgelmesse (The Little Organ Mass), as well as a number of dynamic Canadian folk songs, including Four Strong Winds and We Rise Again. The choir will be accompanied by The Chamber String Players. Special guests include soprano, Jennifer Potter; Susan Connolly, violin; Sean Derraugh, clarinet, as well as the Dodington Youth Singers.
SICC President Jill Doble said, “John puts together a interesting and challenging program with lots of variety, balanced with guest artists from the surrounding local community. It should be another lovely concert!” The choir has had a very successful first year under the direction of Maestro Wervers and continues to grow, drawing members from Collingwood, as well as from Wasaga Beach and the many smaller surrounding communities such as Stayner, Creemore, Singhampton, Kimberly and Thornbury.
One of the new members from Wasaga Beach, Sandy Dalton stated, “The choir has been a great place to get back into singing. It’s always nice to learn an interesting variety of new repertoire and the people are friendly too. John is so encouraging and makes it fun! Singing is good for the soul, so it’s been a wonderful experience.”
Once again there will be two spring concerts – the first to be held in Collingwood on Friday, May 1 at 7:30 pm at the Trinity United Church and the second will be held on Sunday, May 3 at 7:30 at the St. John’s United Church in Creemore.
Tickets for adults cost $20 and children 16 and under will be admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Tickets can be purchased Crow’s Nest Books in Collingwood, IDA Pharmacy in Wasaga Beach, Curiosity House Books in Creemore, from choir members, as well as at the door if still available.
