Grade 3, 6 EQAO tests cancelled due to teacher strike
As a result of work-to-rule job action by elementary school teachers, no Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students in Grades 3 and 6 will be writing the EQAO assessments this year.
The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has notified the board that it will not be sending the Grade 3 and 6 Reading, Writing and Mathematics assessment materials to any boards affected by labour action.
Grade 9 mathematics assessment will proceed as planned.
“Should the labour situation change prior to the planned administration (between May 25 and June 6), EQAO has assured boards of education that they will update us immediately with any proposed changes to this plan,” said board officials.
“Our priority during any job action is the safety of our students. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on the status of negotiations and our schools whenever possible. As a board, we respect our elementary teachers and value their work with students. We remain committed to reaching fair, negotiated agreements with all of our employee groups.”
