Clearview addresses derelict buildings through bylaw

 In News

At the suggestion of Councillor Robert Walker, Clearview council has directed staff to prepare a draft property standards bylaw to deal exclusively with the aesthetics and condition of abandoned buildings in the township.

Walker said with the township ramping up for a revitalization project in downtown Stayner and an increasing focus on tourism, he would like to see a bylaw in place that would give staff some teeth when it comes to persuading people to spruce up certain buildings.

Councillor Shawn Davidson suggested that perhaps staff should also investigate a bylaw with a scope beyond abandoned buildings but there wasn’t enough supports around the council table.

Currently, the Township of Clearview does not have a property standards bylaw of any kind on the books.
