Local Authors Day showcases homegrown talent
Members of the local literary community will be celebrating their achievements this month at Local Authors Day.
Author and illustrator darci-que is coordinating the event to bring exposure and awareness to the number of local self-published authors in the area.
Because of the changing publishing scene, more and more people are self-publishing, she said.
“It’s important to be recognized for what you are doing, even if it’s not mainstream,” said darci-que, author of 13 children’s books chronicling the Adventures of Mollie Doodle.
She is currently working on a new book about Christian Island and has illustrated books for other artists, some will be a part of Local Authors Day, on Saturday, April 23.
Other local authors on the roster:
Ken Brubacher, author of Mennonite Cobbler, a true account of a young man caught in between the Mennonite world of his upbringing and the outside, more modern world.
Ken Thornton, author of The Illusive Dream and A Barnyard Affair. Thornton is working on a third novel, which he intends to publish on his 100th birthday.
Bryan Davies, who published his photographic memoir, Exploring the Light: My Visual Journey.
Ruth Garrett, author of self-help books including Journeying Back Toward Your Essential Self and two The Adventures of Suzie children’s book.
Krista Geddes LeSage, who wrote a book about her daughter Lauren’s cancer rehabilitation and Christa Rowe, who has penned a yet-to-be-published fantasy novel.
The event will be a meet-and-greet and sale with readings throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Station on the Green.
Darci-que’s daughter emilie-que will be performing live during the event.
Refreshments will be served.
