Record number of RAY’s Place scholars this year

Anna Hobbs, chair of the RAY’s Place Scholarship Trust is delighted to announce this year’s winners of scholarships and bursaries.

The scholarship committee and the entire group of volunteers at RAY’s Place extend their best wishes to all of this year’s scholars for a healthy, happy and successful school year.

Without the generous support of community-minded donors, organizations and volunteers, RAY’s Place and its programs would not exist.

Since the inception of the RAY’s Place scholarship and bursary programs four years ago, over $260,000 has been donated or committed by supporters which has assisted 30 local students to pursue their chosen post-secondary educational and career paths.

The successful continuation of these programs urgently requires your support.

Hearty congratulations to the following RAY’s Place scholarship winners for 2016-17:

Valerie Binder of Baxter, and Nottawasaga Pines S.S. will be taking an Honors B.A. at Ottawa University, majoring in French as a second language. Valerie is planning on a career in teaching.

Rylee McGregor of Creemore, who attended Jean Vanier. Rylee will be heading to University of Guelph to study biological science with the objective of being accepted at the Ontario Veterinary College.

Abigail Ruppert of Stayner who attended CCI. Abby will study kinesiology at Acadia University this fall and looks to a career in the medical field.

Taylor Watson from Angus and Nottawsaga Pines S.S. will be heading to Queen’s University to study nursing with the objective to be “the best nurse ever!”

RAY’s Place bursaries were awarded to:

Owen Donkers of Stayner and a graduate of SCI, to study fish and wildlife tech at Fleming College;

Kaitlyn Durkan of Utopia and Nottawasaga Pines S.S. will attend Georgian College to study Massage Therapy;

Quinsea McKenna of Collingwood graduated from CCI and will attend Bishop’s University to study business administration;

Daniel Davies of Collingwood and a graduate of SCI will take biblical studies and theology at Tyndale College;

Lucas Goldsworthy from Collingwood and a graduate of CCI  has enrolled in the heavy equipment operator program at Fleming College

Sara Barbadoro of Creemore who will be starting her second year at Acadia in the Music Program;

Davin Metheral of Glen Huron will be taking second year architectural studies at Ryerson University;

Rebecca Redpath of Duntroon will be taking second year studies in agriculture at the University of Guelph;

Nathalie Rowlinson of Collingwood, who attended CCI, is enrolled in the biochemistry program at Ottawa University.
