Lennox, Douglas Ralph Orval

Passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the age of 85. Born in Mulmur Township, in Ontario, Douglas grew up on a farm where he lived with his parents, Wesly and Prescilla. As a young boy Douglas enjoyed the outdoors, skiing to elementary school during winter months with his life-long best friend Jim Jones. He enjoyed sports, especially ice hockey and baseball during his teenaged and early adult life in Creemore. In the early 1950s he ventured out west where he worked in Alberta and Saskatchewan at various jobs from coal mining to the Saskatchewan Highways Department. In 1954, he decided to enroll at Dalhousie University in the civil engineering program. While at Dalhousie, he met his wife, Mary. After three years at Dalhousie he transferred to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he graduated in 1961. Following graduation he was offered a full academic scholarship to George Washington University, in Washingtion, DC to study Patent and Trade Mark Law. Doug opted for a little more adventure and ventured to California. His began his professional career in Sacramento working on the California Aqueduct. In the mid 60s he and Mary moved back to Canada and settled on the west coast where he worked for McElhanney and Associates, Associated Engineering, as a private consultant, and also owning and operating his own company. He was the project engineer for development of Gold River and the pulp mill. Future endeavours included studying law at UBC and the University of Ottawa. He worked as a patent examiner for the federal government before returning to BC to work for much of his career. He also worked in Saudi Arabia doing survey work and much of the central and south western United States.

He is predeceased by his former wife Mary and his parents. He is survived by his son Brian (Katia).  The highlight of his retirement years was a trip to Europe in 2006 with his son visiting France, England, and Belgium. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 4 , 2017 at noon at Branch #256 Legion in Nanaimo, BC. A service will be held in Creemore later this year.
