New Lowell golf challenge raises funds for BBBS

 In Sports

Indoor winter golf is in full swing at Smith Brothers Baseball Central in New Lowell. In January they hosted the seventh annual Chip Out of Winter Golf Challenge. This year’s event raised more than $1,200 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Georgian Triangle.
The event included putting, chipping and driving contests.
CPGA professional and long-time teaching pro at Mad River Golf Club, Debbie Clum, gave a wonderful clinic along with Brady Zordan, member of the CPGA. The clinic was enjoyed by all that participated, Debbie also included her tour experiences to explain course situations. Following the golf clinics and lessons, everyone enjoyed a catered lunch with keynote speaker, Doug McKeen talking about the mental side of golf.
This was an important fundraiser, as the auction proceeds have been donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Georgian Triangle, giving the opportunity for children to enjoy time at the Smith Brothers Baseball Central facility to participate in indoor baseball programs, summer camps and the Big Brothers Big Sisters with COPS event hosted each year.
This event was a huge success and supported the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Georgian Triangle’s vision that every child who needs a mentor, gets a mentor, and their mission to be leaders in providing the children and youth of the Georgian Triangle the highest quality of volunteer mentoring program.
Smith Brothers would like to thank all those who participated and donated, as well as give a special thank you to Mad River Golf Club, Silver Brooke Golf Club, Tangle Creek Golf Club, Cranberry Golf Course, Duntroon Highlands Golf Club, Wilds at Cedar Valley Golf Course, Innisbrook Golf Course and National Pine Golf Club, who donated to the silent auction. We would also like to thank Debbie Clum, Brady Zordan and Doug McKeen for donating their time and contributing to making this the great event that it was.
All participants had a fantastic day of indoor golf fun. As a result of the wonderful day and the positive feedback we are introducing The Smith Brothers Golf Social Group. This event will be hosted two Fridays a month. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each session will include a one-hour group clinic followed by one-hour mat time to practice what you learned in the clinic. Driving, putting and chipping stations will be set up. Following each session, a light lunch with refreshments will be served. Each session is $60, plus tax. Clum will be teaching indoor golf lessons all winter at Smith Brothers Baseball Central. For more information, visit www.baseballcentral.ca.
