Resist bully tactics, preserve democracy
Editor:
Your editorial about compromise is well intentioned and ideally appropriate when dealing with opposing viewpoints in a mutually respectful fair-minded way. Yes, regressing into stereotypes discounts the common ground of both.
However let’s be “plain and simple,” as Councillor Broderick states. His “mean spirited” label might be attributed to the manner in which he himself railroaded his proposal through council. Abusing his power, he justified his position with a non-written phantom affirmation of his lack of conflict of interest from an integrity commissioner, supported by an acquiescing mayor.
His absurd notion that individuals would prefer to do their shopping on an ATV rather than a baggage appropriate vehicle stretches logic beyond reason. What evidence does he have to support the motion that an ATV has less of a carbon imprint than today’s vehicles?
For the welfare of our healthy, mostly respectful community we must resist these bully tactics to preserve our democracy.
I support a compromise position as outlined in the editorial.
